Oakland Nursery

Oakland Nursery was founded in 1940 on Maize Pike in Columbus, Ohio. The nursery was relocated in 1950 by its founder, Gustav Reiner, to its current location on Oakland Park Avenue. In 1990, Oakland opened another retail complex in the city of Delaware and in 2005, a complex in the city of Dublin.
We take pride in the fact that we are still family-owned and operated: currently owned by our second generation, our third generation of family members also works in our business. Many of our employees have been with us several decades, and some even have their children working with us as well. Much of our plant material is grown here in Ohio, which a portion coming from our sister company Acorn Farms on the north side of Columbus. We are proud to serve our communities around Columbus and beyond.

Scioto Gardens

Scioto Gardens was founded in 1999 by Michael and Linda Johnson. They grew Scioto Gardens into a nursery that provides high-quality plants with an emphasis on native plants and natural soil. Their plant passion included unique and useful imported species, provided they were not species that would invade or harm our local environment.
During his work in the green industry, Michael noticed the nursery industry had moved toward aggressive ‘factory style’ processes that finished plants quickly. He believed the accelerated process was at the expense of long-term plant health. His observations and their combined academic training led them to use more natural growing methods.
In May 2019, a new team of partners purchased the nursery and have carried on their legacy.
